The Regina Rebels were champions in the ninth annual North American Midget Female Showcase tournament at Athol Murray College of Notre Dame on the weekend, beating out 15 other teams.
Teams from Alberta, Manitoba, and B.C. attended the tournament, but two Saskatchewan teams — the Rebels and the Swift Current Wildcats — met in Sunday’s A-final, which the Rebels won 3-1 in Wilcox. Brittany MacDougall, Kendra Finch and Patricia McGauley scored for the Rebels while Krista Funke stopped 20 shots.
Saturday’s A-side semifinal was a 4-1 win for the Rebels over the Prince Albert Bears. Finch, McGauley, Kelsa Duffy and Brooklyn Moskowy scored for the Rebels while Funke stopped 20 shots.
To get to the semifinal, the Rebels finished first in their division in the round-robin. They beat the St. Albert Slash 5-1, lost a close one to the Notre Dame Hounds 2-1, and beat the Saanich Breakers 3-0.
